Matrix Group, a leading digital marketing and consulting agency in the Washington, D.C. area recently launched an updated importer tool for the Materials Research Society’s (MRS) conference websites. MRS is a global association for materials researchers and scientists.
MRS boasts over 14,000 members that are leading scientists in disciplines such as chemistry, biology, physics and engineering. The organization uses its diverse membership base to advance the pursuit of continuing research of materials science disciplines on a global level.
With thousands of meeting attendees counting on timely and accurate program schedules, MRS must be diligent about providing up-to-date information for its two annual meetings. 95% of attendees present at these events, which means MRS must organize thousands of presentation abstracts and agendas into an easy to navigate schedule. MRS uses the ScholarOne platform to manage the process of collecting, reviewing, approving and organizing the sessions at each conference. This data is exported from ScholarOne and imported into the MRS website, where it is presented as part of each meeting’s microsite.
The problem? The technology used to import presentations into the MRS content management system (Sitefinity) was not importing the complete program for events and was not correctly scheduled. Since schedules change so often, especially in the weeks and days leading up to a meeting, MRS staff was eager to find a solution that would streamline their process, make updates easier, and in-turn provide attendees with a more timely and accurate schedule of events. To address this issue, MRS chose Matrix Group to redevelop the importer tool.
The new importer tool is now a reliable tool for MRS staff, allowing them to focus on the more important aspects of the annual meetings, instead of scheduling frustrations. The new importer tool features:
- The ability to quickly and easily import specific presentations and symposiums, worry-free
- A more user-friendly interface for staff
- New logging functionality that provides staff with information about which sessions have been updated
“Matrix Groups’s team took the time to listen to us and understand exactly why this data is important. They were enthusiastic and patient, and above all, thorough in developing an understanding of every step from abstract submission to how the program is viewed by a meeting presenter or attendee. They were determined to get this right for us. It is a great relief to know that I can set off an import and not worry about inaccurate data.” - Erin Hasinger, MRS Web Communications Manager
