Matrix Group Launches Redesigned Website for the Global Innovation Through Science and Technology Website With MatrixMaxx Integration

September 19, 2011

Matrix Group, an award-winning web design and development agency in the Washington D.C. area, announces the launch of a redesigned website and implementation of a new membership database for the Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) initiative.

GIST, an initiative initially funded by the U.S. Department of State, was executed by CRDF Global, an independent nonprofit organization that promotes international scientific and technical collaboration through grants, technical resources, and training with one goal in mind—to encourage economic advancement through science and technology based innovation in the Middle East, North Africa and Asia.

The GIST team along with its international partners and members of the State Department sought to appeal to audiences in those regions through entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as foster peace building and collaboration.

With the web being its primary communications avenue, GIST needed to redesign its website to serve as an informational resource, provide tools and serve as a platform for global networking. It turned to Matrix Group to make this happen.

  • Designed a website that engages and inspires younger entrepreneurs. With this demographic on the rise, it was very important that the site resonate with the regions’ next generation of idea launchers.
  •  Developed a user-friendly design with topic based navigation. Visitors to the website look for specific information and resources. With this understanding in mind, Matrix Group created a simple navigation featuring information about GIST, news and events.
  •  Implemented the site in Sitefinity content management system.  With CRDF Global’s main website in Sitefinity, GIST staff decided to transfer its website from WordPress to Sitefinity to leverage the organization’s investment.
  • Created a strong social networking strategy to build a strong entrepreneur community.  As much of the work GIST is doing is abroad, it was important to also build a strong social network to help connect their audience members. With an understanding of these goals, Matrix Group designed a strategy and set up pages on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Linkedin. To date, more than 1000 people have “liked” GIST’s fan page.
  •  Implemented MatrixMaxx, Matrix Group’s Association Management Software. Entrepreneurs can join GIST’s network online for free and gain access to a variety of tools and services. GIST staff can monitor users' interactions through the system, as well as well as gather more detailed reports on members’ activities.
  • Executed platform to host business plan competition through the website.  The business plan competition is the first of many that GIST is hosting to encourage entrepreneurs to participate in for funding.

The website launched in time for Economic Development through Science and Technology Innovation Conference in Rabat, Morocco this past June, and was presented at the conference. In addition, GIST announced the launch of its Ideas Competition.
