Matrix Group Launches New Blog for The Casualty Actuarial Society

July 27, 2011

Matrix Group, an award-winning web design and development agency in the Washington D.C. metro area, announces the launch of a new blog for The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) called the “CAS Roundtable.” The new blog serves as a platform for members and CAS leadership to engage in conversations on the professional society’s activities as well as on issues affecting the actuarial field.

As one of the largest professional organizations for actuaries, the goals of the society are to:

  • Advance the body of knowledge of actuarial science applied to property, casualty and similar risk exposures
  • Establish and maintain standards of qualification for membership
  •  Promote and maintain high standards of conduct and competence for the members
  • And, increase the awareness of actuarial science

With a strong presence on Facebook and Twitter already established, the CAS needed a blog whose primary objective was to serve as a conversation forum for members and leadership to discuss member issues and other trending topics. It was very important that the CAS position the blog as an online roundtable.

To make this goal into a reality, the company called its longtime web partner, Matrix Group for help.

Matrix Group designed and implemented a blog with a clear understanding of the professional organization’s goals.  Matrix Group:

  • Created a beautiful design for the blog that reflects the organization’s brand.  Matrix Group also incorporated a number of elements to reinforce the blog as a “roundtable” for members and CAS staff.
  • Implemented the blog in WordPress, the popular blogging content management system (CMS). The CMS allows staffers with credentials to maintain the blog with little outside help.  It also enables staff to respond to members’ comments in a timely manner.
  • Integrated with CAS’s overall social networking strategy. The blog features the organization’s Twitter and Facebook feeds. In addition, the site also includes a sharing element with each post to encourage followers to share posts they like on their individual social networking pages and via email. Visitors can also retweet and “like” individual posts. All these capabilities will help drive traffic back to its website.

“CAS members have been telling us that they want more details about decisions made by our Board of Directors. They also want to be able to provide regular input on the direction of the organization. The CAS Roundtable blog was the perfect solution,” explained CAS Director of Communications and Marketing, Mike Boa. “With help and guidance from Matrix, we’ve established a new two-way communication vehicle that will allow us to engage our members in a fresh way.”
