2010 AAO-HNSF Annua lMeeting

Matrix Group International, Inc., one of the top interactive agencies in the Washington D.C. metro area, is pleased to announce the launch of a new website for the American Academy of Otolaryngology.

AAO-HNS is the largest organization serving professionals that specialize in treatment for the ear, nose, throat and related systems. Ailments in these systems affect all Americans, young and old, from the common nosebleed or sore throat, to larger diagnoses that require head or neck surgery. Members of AAO-HNS depend on the organization to lead the charge in keeping its membership informed with crucial data on what is happening in the profession.

The Academy's annual meeting and tradeshow is a flagship event for its membership, attracting thousands of attendees to discuss trends within the profession. Leaders and some of the top minds within the profession gather to share information and collaborate on new projects. There are also guest lecturers, instruction courses, numerous poster sessions and opportunities to accrue continuing education credits.

The Need

Because the conference has so much value for its membership, AAO-HNSF came to Matrix Group for guidance in creating a site that showcased the multi-faceted spectrum of activities and opportunities that are part of the conference. Goals of the new site were to:

  • Streamline the registration process
  • Allow users to see the full range of what is happening at the conference and expo
  • Highlight certain key areas of content
  • Analyze on visitor trends and make adjustments to the site based on feedback and response

In addition, the site needed to focus on creating a design that was distinctive to the conference, while still preserving the overall brand established by the Academy.

The Matrix Group Solution

After meeting with the conference planning team, Matrix Group designers and developers set out to create the new site, leveraging pre-existing knowledge of AAO-HNSF’s systems as well as implementing some new technologies to resonate with the site’s visitors. Our award-winning team:

  • Developed a distinct color palette and style guide for the design. The new look and feel is inspired by some of the conference’s printed materials, as well as the need for bold typography and contrast.
  • Created intuitive, task-driven navigation for users to easily register for the conference as well as find additional information.
  • Leveraged AAO-HNS’s investment in their CommonSpot content management system to power the new site. Both technical and non-technical staff will be able to update the site with new content before, during and after the conference.
  • Integrated social networking sites Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube into the new site, as well as worked with the team to establish best practices on how to incorporate social networking into its marketing and communications initiatives.

The new site has been instrumental in promoting the conference and getting the word out to attendees. The 2010 conference and expo is looking forward to a successful week in Boston this fall!
