As more and more business processes became automated, the emergence of new applications, technologies and tools exponentially grew. This created multi-vendor technical environments; having silos of data maintained from disparate systems. In order to provide complete solutions to information problems, “integrating” data from several sources, likely written in different programming languages with its own data structures, became increasingly important and in some scenarios, critical.
