Matrix Group Receives Silver Award from the Inaugural Arlington Green Games
March 22, 2012
Matrix Group, an award-winning web design and development agency in the Washington DC area, won a Silver Award from the Arlington Green Games for its green work over the last year.
Sponsored by the Arlington Initiative to Reduce Emissions Program, the Arlington Green Games is a friendly competition for commercial property managers and office tenants to reduce building emissions and operating costs.
Matrix Group was among more than 100 buildings and offices, representing roughly 15 million square feet – or one third – of Arlington’s office space that competed for one year in a race to reduce water, energy and water use, and set other environmental goals.
Matrix Group was applauded for reducing:
- Computer energy usage by 62% on desktop stations
- Waste consumption by 33% by composting everyday items such as paper products and towels
- Green house gas admissions by supporting “green commutes”—approximately 25% of staff bike, walk or run to work
Staff also began to incorporate green practices initiated at work into their personal lives.
“We are thrilled to have received this award,” said, Director of MatrixMaxx and Green Team Champion Tanya Kennedy Luminati, “We feel that we not only helped reduce waste and energy consumption, but that we changed the mindset of the staff, making them more ‘green' conscious."
As part of Matrix Group’s participation, the team led a seminar for participants on social media, recorded videos highlighting green practices, and used the company's internal email lists and wiki to share green resources and information.
